Bruins-Senators Preview

GAME: Boston Bruins (20-11-10-4) at Ottawa Senators (23-11-7-3).

TIME: Saturday, 7 p.m. EST.

It's been more than a month since the Ottawa Senators lost a home game.

The Boston Bruins were responsible for that.

A pair of the league's hottest teams will be looking to extend their respective streaks when the Bruins and Senators meet at the Corel Centre.

Things are going so well for the Senators of late that even a four-goal deficit Thursday against the visiting New York Islanders wasn't insurmountable.

Todd White, Martin Havlat and Zdeno Chara scored 5:14 apart in the third period as Ottawa earned an improbable point with a 4-4 tie.

"Any time you come back from 4-1 it's somewhat of a victory," Ottawa forward Bryan Smolinski said. "You dig yourself a hole, but you've got to find a way to dig yourself out."

Ottawa, which trailed by three goals entering the third period, moved to 7-0-2 at home since a 3-2 loss to Boston on Dec. 13. The Senators have earned a point in 14 of their last 15 games (10-1-4).

Making Thursday's draw even more impressive was that Ottawa rallied from a large deficit without any contributions from two of its best players.

Leading scorer Marian Hossa was held without a point for the first time in six games and captain Daniel Alfredsson, who has 10 points in his last nine games, was scratched with the flu.

Boston continued its climb up the Eastern Conference standings with a 1-0 road victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

Felix Potvin made 27 saves for his 31st career shutout and Sergei Samsonov scored in the second period, helping the Bruins to their fifth straight win.

Since Samsonov returned to the lineup after missing nine games with a knee injury, Boston is 6-0-1 -- its longest unbeaten streak since a 7-0-1 run from March 7-21, 1996.

The line of Samsonov, captain Joe Thornton and Glen Murray has combined for six goals and 10 assists during the unbeaten stretch.

"It's always easy to come back from an injury and get thrown on a line like that," Samsonov said. "It makes everything easier. You get scoring opportunities, you play well and get your confidence back real quickly."

Bruins coach Mike Sullivan has two hot goalies to choose from for Saturday.

Andrew Raycroft has allowed five goals during four straight wins, while Potvin has given up six goals in a personal 3-0-1 stretch.
