OTTAWA - While Toronto was busy shutting down the Senators' top line Saturday night, Ottawa's second unit picked up the slack.

Mike Fisher scored twice and Brian Elliott made 29 saves for his second shutout of the season in the Senators' 3-0 victory over the Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

The line of Fisher, Alex Kovalev and Milan Michalek accounted for all the scoring, with Kovalev scoring the other goal and adding two assists and Michalek finishing with two assists.

"It's nice to see those guys score goals," Senators centre Jason Spezza said. "They've had a lot of chances lately and it's nice to see them get rewarded."

Elliott made his first start in four games.

"Elliott did a great job and made some good saves when he needed to and kept us with that lead," Fisher said. "We're a much better team when we're playing with the lead. Divisional games are really important and that was a big one for us."

Jonas Gustavsson made 25 saves for Toronto. The Maple Leafs have lost three of their last four.

Kovalev opened the scoring late in the first period, collecting a rebound and scoring on the game's first power-play opportunity.

Fisher made it 2-0 at 12:51 of the second, waiting for Gustavsson to commit before slipping a backhander past the goalie. With a minute left in the period, scored on a 2-on-1 break.

"Those were two of the nicest goals you'll see all year probably from our team," Spezza said.

NOTES: Defencemen David Hale and Brian Lee were healthy scratches for the Senators ... With an average age of 26 years, the Maple Leafs are the youngest team in the NHL. Los Angeles is second at 26.1 ... The Senators are back home again Monday night, facing the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night at Scotiabank Place (7:30 p.m., Rogers Sportsnet East, Team 1200).
