Bruins-Senators Preview
Boston Bruins vs. Ottawa Senators

Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara was undaunted in his first two meetings with his former team and expects Tuesday to be no different.

Chara returns to Ottawa for the first time since signing with the Bruins in the offseason when his new squad visits the Senators.

The 6-foot-9 Chara spent the last four seasons with Ottawa, recording 51 goals and 95 assists, before signing a five-year, $37.5 million deal with the Bruins on July 1.

Boston's captain has five goals and 14 assists this season, including a point in each of his two matchups with Ottawa - both wins coming in Boston. Chara scored the third-period game-winner in a 2-1 victory on Oct. 28 and set up the first goal in a 4-3 win on Nov. 11.

He said his main focus Tuesday will be the game.

"Every player in his career, probably, most likely, gets traded or he signs somewhere else," Chara told the Bruins' official Web site. "You have memories, but you also know that you have to play for your new team. As I said, it's business.

"I made a lot of friends up there. You keep in touch with them, but when you come back you play your game, you focus on the game."

Fellow defenseman Andrew Alberts said he doesn't expect Chara to be affected by the likely heckling from his former fans.

"(They'll) boo every time he touches the puck," Alberts said. "But he's a strong minded person and he's going to play it like it's any other game."

The Bruins (15-13-2) have won six of the last seven meetings against the Senators, but have just two wins in their last 17 trips to Ottawa.

Boston is coming off a 6-3 loss to the Florida Panthers - its third defeat in four games.

Glen Murray's second goal of the game gave the Bruins a 3-2 second-period lead, but they allowed four unanswered goals. Murray leads Boston with 16 goals and has four multigoal games this season, one coming in the most recent meeting with Ottawa (17-16-1).

Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas, who stopped 30 shots Saturday, is 4-1-1 with a 2.14 goals-against average in six career starts versus the Senators.

Jason Spezza scored twice on the power play and added an assist Saturday to lead Ottawa to a 3-1 win over Buffalo, its third victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Sabres this season.

Spezza boosted his team-leading point total to 43 while second-leading scorer Dany Heatley had a goal and two assists to snap a four-game point drought. The Senators were energized by the return of captain Daniel Alfredsson, who had missed five games with a hip injury, and also saw Peter Schaefer back in action after sitting out one game with an eye infection.

Defenseman Wade Redden has yet to play this month due to a chest injury, but did practice Monday and will be a game-time decision Tuesday.

"He was quite active out there and looked as good as anyone else," Senators coach Bryan Murray told the team's official Web site. "I'll let him let me know when he's ready to go."

Ottawa goaltender Ray Emery made 35 saves to earn Saturday's win, but hasn't faced the Bruins this season and is 0-1-1 with a 3.36 GAA in two career starts against them.

Boston rookie forward Phil Kessel, who has five goals and four assists this season, is expected to rest for two weeks following surgery for testicular cancer.

"Sometime after Christmas," Bruins coach Dave Lewis said. "He's a normal guy that went through surgery, and (we'll) watch all the different areas. No contact early, and probably (skate) by himself."
