OTTAWA - Jason Spezza scored a power-play goal for his 300th NHL point and Dany Heatley had two assists to reach 50 points this season, leading the Ottawa Senators to a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night.
Daniel Alfredsson scored his 22nd goal and Martin Gerber made 24 saves, extending his and the Senators' winning streaks to three.
Bill Guerin scored twice for New York, ruining Gerber's shutout bid 8:13 into the third. He added his team-leading 12th of the season at 15:39.
New York was without No. 1 goalie Rick DiPietro, who sprained his left knee Wednesday night in warmups and then played only one period in the Islanders' 4-3 overtime victory against Toronto. He is day-to-day and might return Saturday at home against New Jersey.
Wade Dubielewicz, the Islanders' rarely used backup, made 32 saves in just his third start of the season. New York had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Dubielewicz, 2-3 overall in six appearances, fell to 0-3 as a starter one night after replacing DiPietro to start the second period and going on to earn his second relief victory of the season.
Gerber improved to 19-5-1 as he made another start over Ray Emery.
Emery stopped the only shot he faced during a shared shutout with Gerber on Dec. 12 before leaving that game five minutes in with a hip injury. He has started only one of Ottawa's eight games since.
Spezza earned his milestone point in his 277th regular-season game with his 13th goal of the season during Ottawa's 5-on-3 advantage 1:01 into the second. He added his 301st point 1:43 later when he set up Alfredsson's 22nd goal.
Heatley recorded his second straight assist when Ottawa took a 2-0 lead 2:44 into the second.
Vermette made it 3-0 with seven seconds remaining in the period when he scored a short-handed goal, his eighth tally of the season.
Guerin drew New York within 3-1 when he beat Gerber with a 35-foot wrist shot.
Foligno batted a puck into the net at 10:25 to restore the Senators' three-goal lead on a play that was confirmed by a video review.
Fisher made it 5-1 with his 11th goal at 11:10, but Guerin cut New York's deficit back to three when his slap shot from the right side beat Gerber at 15:39.
Notes: Dubielewicz has allowed 17 goals in his three starts, while the Islanders have only scored three over that span ... Senators C Cody Bass assisted on Foligno's goal for his first NHL point in six games since being called up from Binghamton (AHL) ... The Senators next face the Washington Capitals on Saturday night at Scotiabank Place (7 p.m., CBC, Team 1200). Fewer than 100 tickets remain for the game.
